Business has picked up over the past few weeks, as we knew it would, and we’re ready to take on September and the Fall season. We have a lot to look forward to!

Lanes Re-Opened, COVID Measures

Due to increased traffic over the past few weeks, we made a decision to re-open all 6 lanes in the range. It has been our experience so far that our members are exercising all due caution with regard to social distancing and sanitation & hygiene. People are coming in wearing masks, washing their hands and sanitizing and respecting social distancing guidelines when other shooters are present. As a rule, everyone has been respectful and compliant. Thank you to all for your continued caution!

We have posted some signage, and we have made available a copy of the Huron-Perth Public Health unit’s guidelines for commercial establishments, at our front desk. Every one of our shooting lanes has a good-sized barricade on both sides, so even in the event that shooters are not able to space out to every other lane, there is a solid measure of protection in place.

We have some guidelines of our own for when members come out for some trigger time:

  • Please wear a mask if you are able to do so. This is a municipal requirement for all commercial businesses in our jurisdiction of Huron-Perth.

  • Wash your hands when entering, and again when leaving. Lead is still toxic.

  • If using range equipment (borrowed muffs, stapler, etc), please wipe it down before and after use. We have disinfectant wipes at the front desk and on the range for this purpose.

  • Always try to keep one open lane between you and the next shooter.

  • If this is not possible, please allow for plenty of space between yourself and any other people in the other lanes, and wear a mask if you are able.

Members are again permitted to bring guests from outside their households (welcome back, Cousin Roger!), with the usual fee of $25 per guest. This works the same as before, with the following additional guidelines:

  • If you are bringing a guest, it is your responsibility to make sure your guest follows the rules and respects social distancing and mask policies.

  • If your guest is unlicensed, you MUST remain within arm’s reach of them while they are handling any firearm. Please make sure you are doing so with all due precautions (i.e. both wearing masks, clean hands, neither of you is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, etc).

  • If you are feeling any cold or flu-like symptoms, or any other symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home.

PAL & RPAL Courses

Our PAL and RPAL courses are booked solid for the rest of the year. We’re working hard to meet the demand, and we may be adding a further PAL course this fall. Generally, we don’t like to close down the range any more than is absolutely necessary, and we cannot have the range in operation during CFSC courses – that’s FSESO rules – but we’re willing to take a gamble in order to add more shooters to our community. Hopefully the inconvenience to our active members is outweighed by the benefit of increasing our numbers.

We will keep everyone updated through Facebook if and when more PAL courses become available.

Shooting Academy Retail Store

September brings two exciting things to the forefront.

First is the grand opening of our Shooting Academy Listowel Pro Shop. We have technically been open for business (in a limited capacity) since the lockdown was lifted, but starting September 2nd we have significantly expanded our staffed hours. Our new staffed store hours are:

Monday & Tuesday – Closed
Wednesday – Noon – 6:00 PM
Thursday & Friday – Noon – 8:00 PM
Saturday – 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Sunday – 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

September also sees the opening of several hunting seasons in Ontario. To that end, we are now carrying .30-calibre rifle rounds, buck shot and waterfowl shotgun loads, all at competitive prices. We’re also well-stocked with cleaning supplies, rifle reloading gear and components and safety and security equipment. Keep an eye out for our Deals of the Week – we announce them on Facebook and post the details here. Our inventory is continually growing, and we are happy to consider customer input when deciding what more to bring in. After all, we want to bring in the stuff that you want to buy. If you don’t see it on the shelves, we can probably get it, so don’t be afraid to ask.
